Music Producer, Philanthropist, and Entrepreneur.His career has embraced a remarkable blend of creative genius and benevolent entrepreneurial spirit, making him a distinguished figure across many industries. He is one of three representatives on the Music Branch of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (The Oscars).
Gibbs is renowned for the breadth of his contributions to the film and television industry, with numerous notable works including scoring music for the first season of “The Simpsons” and the reimagining of “Battlestar Galactica” and composing for feature His professional musical journey began as the keyboard player for the seminal band Oingo Boingo from 1980 to 1984. He was also a session player and arranger on more than 150 albums for such artists as Aretha Franklin, War, Tom Waits, and Robert Palmer. He has served as Music Director for The Muppets and Tracey Ullman. Beyond his accomplishments in music, Gibbs has forged significant accomplishments in business and philanthropy. His world-class Woodshed Recording studio in Malibu, California is a beloved creative space that has hosted a large selection of celebrated artists, including Barbra Streisand, U2, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Garth Brooks, Cher, Ariana Grande, P!nk, Tom Petty, Miley Cyrus, Chance the Rapper, and countless others. Gibbs is the Founder of Armory of Harmony, an innovative nonprofit project that upcycles decommissioned weapons into musical instruments. This initiative underscores his dedication to fostering a dialogue of peace and harmony using the power of music, providing instruments to schools while promoting a message of hope. Gibbs also founded the Composers Breakfast Club, a unique weekly gathering that brings together composers, music industry professionals, and people from around the world to share insights and experiences and inspire each other. The series has featured speakers from a multitude of industries, such as Matt Groening, RZA, Diane Warren, Bob Saget, Nolan Bushnell, Fran Drescher, Flea, Lindsay Wagner, Ken Kragen, Jane Seymour, and scores more.
